The new Toy Story 5 posters offer an early look at a different setup for Woody, Buzz, and Jessie. Instead of another toy entering Bonnie’s world, the sequel introduces a new kind of play companion.

The new Toy Story 5 posters suggest a slightly different direction for Pixar’s next sequel. According to the film’s official synopsis, Toy Story 5 explores a “Toy meets Tech” setup as Bonnie’s routines begin to shift and play starts to take a different shape.
The setup appears to move away from a familiar toy-versus-toy dynamic and toward a new play environment.
The Posters Show the Shift More Clearly
Across the three released posters, Woody, Buzz, and Jessie stand opposite Lilypad, a tablet character that becomes part of Bonnie’s playtime. The composition stays mostly the same while the reactions change. Woody appears more uncertain. Jessie looks more cautious. Buzz seems noticeably more frustrated.
Rather than focusing on action, the visuals draw attention to how the characters respond to a new situation.
A Familiar Theme in a Different Setup
That still fits themes the franchise has explored before.
Previous Toy Story films often centered on change, growing up, and adapting to new stages of life. This time, the story appears to look at how familiar routines shift when something new becomes part of them.
The posters leave that idea relatively open.
Lilypad is not presented as a traditional villain as much as a new presence inside Bonnie’s world. Based on the early material, the challenge seems to come less from direct conflict and more from figuring out where everyone fits.
Behind the film, Andrew Stanton returns after helping shape the franchise from the beginning. His directing credits include Finding Nemo and WALL-E. Returning cast members include Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack.
Toy Story 5 releases in theaters on June 19, 2026.
